The U.S. extends the release time for the final conclusion of the anti-circumvention investigation on Vietnamese stainless sheet and strip
The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) has announced an extension to September 6, 2022, for the release of the final conclusions of the two investigations, according to the Trade Defense Agency of Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade. This is the fourth time the U.S. has announced an extension to the investigation.
Previously, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced on May 15, 2022 that it would launch a trade investigation into stainless steel plates and strips imported from Vietnam, while claiming that related products may be suspected of evading anti-dumping and countervailing duties.
Specifically, the U.S. Department of Commerce conducts two investigations, including an investigation into the product range, to determine whether stainless steel products originating in China that are processed in Vietnam before being exported to the United States are taxable.
In addition, the US Department of Commerce also conducts anti-circumvention investigations on Vietnamese companies.
According to the Trade Defense Agency, this is an investigation initiated by the U.S. Department of Commerce, not an allegation initiated by a U.S. domestic manufacturer.
Since February 2017, the U.S. Department of Commerce has adopted anti-dumping rates of 63.86-76.64% and anti-subsidy rates of 75.60-190.71% for stainless steel products originating in China. The U.S. has zero import tax on stainless steel plates originating in Vietnam.
